The History of DramaFest

First established in 1974, DramaFest was originally governed and run by the board of directors of the Educational Drama Association of Nova Scotia (EDANS) – a professional association branch of the Nova Scotia Teacher’s Union which oversees Drama in schools. After 34 years of the Festival in 2008, EDANS decided to hand over governance of the festival to Theatre Nova Scotia. Although DramaFest has become a program of TNS, it still depends on the partnership of three key organizations:

  • EDANS – The Educational  Drama Association of Nova Scotia
  • Dalhousie University and its Fountain School of Performing Arts
  • The Nova Scotia Department of Education

For over 15 years, Theatre Nova Scotia has been leveraging its connection to the professional theatre community to deliver impactful programming to students and teachers at DramaFest.
